This visa is for employers in regional Australia, to fill skilled positions they are unable to fill from the local labour market. Under Regional Sponsored Migration Scheme, employers are able to nominate staff from overseas or temporary residents currently in Australia to fill full-time, permanent vacancies.
To be eligible for a permanent visa under Regional Sponsored Migration Scheme, the employee must:
Have the relevant qualifications for the nominated position, which are equivalent to at least an Australian diploma level
Have been offered a position for a fixed term of at least 2 years (supported by evidence of contract or letter of appointment signed by both the employer and the employee)
Be under 45 years
Have functional English language ability After the visa granted, the employee must meet the following obligations:
Commence employment within six months of arriving in Australia or within six months of the visa grant if they are already in Australia
Remain employed in the nominated position in the regional area for at least two years
The visa may be cancelled if the employee does not comply with these obligations to complete the two year contract with the employer.
